6 Holiday Spenders Buying in Q4 2021
In Q4 2021, US holiday retail sales are expected to rise 2.7% to $1.093 trillion with e-commerce reaching a record 18.9%, driven by early Black Friday deals, continued popularity of buy-now-pickup-in-store (BOPIS) for convenience, and strategic investments by six key holiday spenders including an e-commerce handmade goods company, a denim brand expanding digitally, an electronics company increasing ad spend, and a discount retailer shifting advertising online.
Welcome to the “most wonderful time of the year” for many brands and retailers. According to Forbes, US holiday retail sales in 2021 are predicted to increase 2.7% to $1.093 trillion. E-commerce will account for a record 18.9% of all holiday retail sales. While 2020 brought many changes to the typical buying and selling cycle, some oddities from last year’s holiday spenders (and the entire holiday season) will stick around.
For example, with incomes and leisure spending unstable throughout 2020, many retailers kicked off their Black Friday deals as early as October and November. Consumers took advantage of it. In Q4 2021, more businesses will offer these early deals — not only so shoppers can beat the crowds, but to combat continued supply chain issues and the shipping delays common during the holidays.
Additionally, the buy-now-pickup-in-store trend (BOPIS) will also stick around in 2021. In fact, the National Retail Federation found that BOPIS improved the customer experience for 70% of surveyed consumers by increasing convenience. And 90% of those surveyed customers are more likely to choose a retailer based on convenience.
